What Are the Steps Involved?
At the first session or over the telephone the mediation process is explained in detail. After this, both of you, with the help of the mediator, come together to discuss your relationship concerns. Step by step, we identify the problems and reach agreement on workable solutions. In addition, the mediator will provide simple tools and verbal techniques you can use at home with each other to foster solution-driven communication, patience, understanding and cooperation. At the second session, we review the couple's experiences since the first session and we make adjustments to the solutions and techniques accordingly. It is recommended that couples plan for two to five sessions in total.
What Does It Cost?
You pay-as-you-go. The fee is sliding scale, averaging $150/hour. Mediation sessions generally last from one to two hours. They are usually scheduled a week or two apart so that you have time to practice new skills between sessions. While the entire program can take as little as 2 hours, the average length of time it takes to create a plan for a better relationship is 4-6 hours.
